French League

The French League, officially known as Ligue 1, is the top professional football (soccer) league in France. It is the premier division of the French football league system and features the highest level of competition among French clubs. Ligue 1 operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Ligue 2, the second tier of French football. Established in 1933, it consists of 20 teams that compete against each other, typically from August to May, in a round-robin format where each team plays the others twice, once at home and once away. Points are awarded based on match results—three points for a win, one point for a draw, and none for a loss. The team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the champion. Ligue 1 is known for developing and showcasing talent, and its clubs participate in European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
