Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, using a spherical ball. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net. Players primarily use their feet to maneuver the ball, although they may use any part of their body except their arms and hands, unless they are the goalkeepers. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a series of markings that define the boundaries, goal area, and penalty area.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board. The most widely recognized governing body for international play is FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). The sport is known for its popular global tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup, which takes place every four years and features national teams from around the world.

In various regions, the term “football” may refer to different variations of the game, such as association football (known as soccer in some countries like the United States and Canada) or other forms such as American football and Australian rules football. However, in most contexts, “football” specifically denotes association football, which is the most popular sport worldwide.
